I live in Kings Park. My power was only off for about 8 hours. I do have a friend to lives near the Rolling Road VRE station and his power was off for about the same amount of time as yours was.

Yup, that's exactly where I live.

Luckily, not even a flicker with last night's storm, although our basement pipes did back up in to the laundry room for unknown reasons, and we're leaving in a few hours for 2 weeks in Europe so we won't be home to monitor if it happens again. Oops.

Did you put a bunch of stuff down your garbage disposal? That can often cause your kitchen drain line to clog and back up. If so, not really something to worry about while you're gone since nobody will presumably be putting anything in the line. I'll bet there will be a lot of that around here if people disposed of their spoiled food that way rather than in the trash. Roto-rooter should be busy. You can test it by flushing toilets a few times and then if nothing backs up, running water down the kitchen drain.

No, it all went into the trash. Nothing backed up last night after doing dishes and flushing toilets, or this morning after showering, so I'm attributing it to the near flash flood in our yard somehow.

Who knows? I'm going to stuff towels around all the doorways to attempt to contain it if anything happens, and then I'm going to catch a plane and forget about it until I come home. Mature home ownership at its best. We'll call the plumber when we get home if there appears to be a need for one.

I know that the neighborhood north of Parliament Drive was without power a lot longer though, 2-3 days at least.
