Cross Alexandria off the list. It's too far away from your work and it's not any cheaper.

OP-

It really depends what you want out of a community. I live and work in Herndon, and my apt is ~$1630/month for a one bedroom (I say about because I pay a furnished rate since I move for work, but this is unfurnished rate). There are MANY apt complexes, especially along Sunrise Valley Dr that are gated and around this price range. Pool, and many have parking garages. I'm sure there are others that are a few hundred cheaper than mine.

I also don't care much about a "social" scene after work, as Herndon really has none . This is where living by Reston Town Center might come in handy. It's a great area if you want some happy hour entertainment.

But as I said, I am unable to get a room mate (due to travel), therefore I'm stuck with my price range. However, the Herndon Monroe park and ride is extremely easy to use to get yourself to DC on the weekends, which is how I get around. I'm on a bus and off to a metro station in just under 20 minutes.

I have several co workers who do the Tysons --> Herndon commute in the morning and don't find it problematic.

I'm only offering this alternative, as I have no idea the price range or quality of apartments you could find in Tysons. Arlington/Alexandria are great areas for socializing and young professionals. However, if you're like me and just relax after work, I'd suggest going a bit further out to bring your price range down.
