Default Company Moving to Herndon, VA

My company has asked me to relocate to northern Virginia, as we move our U.S. headquarters to Herndon.

I'm scheduled to fly out to the DC metro to look at communities I would be interested in living in. I'm 28, male, very outgoing and single...so to me I would like to live in a safe and happening area, where there are a good number of young (24-35) single professional women. By happenning area i mean people are actually out and about and having a good time, lots of bars, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Since I won't know anyone when I move, I would also like to be in an area that allows me to meet a lot of people.

What areas in North Virginia would meet this criteria. I don't mind commute time if its less than 45 minutes. I'm looking to purchase a 1 bedroom condo or a small townhouse.

Thanks for all your help. I need all the help and advice I can get.

I would take a look at Arlington, Reston, Fairfax City, Kingstown and maybe even a few spots in Herndon. Depending upon your price range, you can certainly find something in most, if not all of those places, that will suit your needs.

Yeah the company is Volkswagen Audi of America and we are moving from Michigan

I have readthat Ballston-Clarendon area is happening place to live; but i've also read that it is nothing but office buildings and condos in that area. So I don't know what to believe.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, the Ballston-Clarendon area is probably the most happening place in NOVA. I wouldn't say that it is nothing but offices and condos, but it certainly has its fair share.

Any of the places I listed will put you pretty close to a decent bar/nightlife scene, but you will get a nicer place for the money as you move further west of DC. So you'll just have to evaluate where your priorities are...not that one is better than the other.

The Ballston/Clarendon/Courthouse/Virginia Square corridor that runs along Metro's Orange Line is full of office buildings and condos but, unlike Roslyn (which was developed in the 1970s and is very sterile and cold), there is also a great mix of retail, restaurants, bars, etc. LOTS of young single professionals. Very easy to get into DC on weekends. You would need to drive to Herndon, but you'd be making a reverse commute, so it should be do-able in 45 minutes. It's generally the "go-to" spot that regulars on this board recommend to folks like you. Reston is more family-oriented, and Herndon even more so.

Based on your criteria, I'm also inclined to highly recommend the Court House-Ballston corridor. It's the place where you'll find the highest concentration of young, single professionals in Northern VA. You can easily drive or take public transportation into DC. Another place to consider are areas around Reston Town Center. That would be a lot closer to your job in Herndon, but it will not have the large amount of bars and restaurants North Arlington has. Good luck.

I knew it! Welcome to NoVA. I'd suggest you post at the forums at vwvortex.com, specifically the National Capital Region forum. We have a strong VW group here and I am sure the single guys (and gals) could give you advices on what's happening after hours. If you don't feel comfortable admitting you are with VW/Audi of NA over at VWVortex, just don't mention it

Thanks to everyone who responded.

Anybody have an idea on a recommended condo development in the Ballston area? Price would be between 300k-350k. Also are the condo's in this area typically easy to sell because it's a hot spot?
