I worked on 4 week project near Fort Meade travelling from Tysons Corner. Routinely took 1.5 to 2 hours in traffic each way. Should consider Columbia, College Park. If you must do it, look at Alexandria.

I've been commuting 3 times a week for more than a year between Tyson and Ft. Meade. Leave at 5:30am in the morning and usually take 45-50 minutes. The afternoon trip home to Tyson starts around 3pm and takes around 60-75 minutes.

I did it from Herndon to Ft Meade for about 2 months. Took me about an hour in the morning (leave by 7) and and 1:15 to get home as long as I left by 3:15pm.

Live in Annapolis if you can. You'll love it.

But yeah, Columbia is closer and cheaper.

Visit your friends in Arlington on the weekend,
or whenever you're off work.

You'll make new friends in Maryland too

I am actually pcsing to Meade as well and interested in living in NoVa. I understand the commute is hell and would rather not drive if possible. I am originally from the area and have a home in Alexandria. I have not lived in the area for over 10 years but I know at one time they were talking about taking the Metro out there. Did that ever get completed? Are there any other viable public transportation options that would get me to Fort Meade in time for Morning Formation (0615)?

I've actually started to look at Bethesda/Silver Spring, since I was told to stay away from CP. I'm having trouble finding things available almost immediately in my <$1600 budget

Why did they tell you to stay away from College Park?

There are shuttles from the metro to Ft Meade, not sure how early they start though.

I'm assuming you are from Indiana by your username.

I would REALLY suggest living in Maryland for commuting to Ft. Meade. NoVA to Meade will be straight lunatic. For your budget you should find plenty of safe rentals in areas like Laurel, Bowie, Odenton, Gambrills and many more.
