Is it possible to find a descent place to rent for around $1850/month (3 bed/2bath) within 45 minutes to Lorton? I don't really want to drive farther than that... VRE could be an option - the government will pay for me to commute, but then I will probably have to buy a cheap car to park somewhere for once I get off the VRE to actually GET to work in Lorton.

Looking to live somewhere where it is nice and quiet. Fredericksburg would be ideal, but I think it is a bit too far away. Anyone have any ideas for a descent commute? Seems like anything to the North/East gets too pricey, so looks like I either need to go South/West of Lorton. Right now I am in DC and I walk to work which is ideal - I am changing jobs though and will be forced to move - I don't think I am going to like the commute from DC to Lorton everyday...

I came up with $1,850/month because I am getting $2,105/month for housing allowance (right now I pay nothing out of pocket in a 3 bed/2.5 bath in DC). I figured $255/month was a descent price to cover most (hopefully) utilities...

You may have to look at private rentals. Your budget seems like it would be low for a managed complex in Prince William County. Stafford County may work out better but I'll leave it to others more knowledgeable to confirm that.

There's that. Others have suggested militarybyowner.com.

Doing a quick search on realtor.com using your parameters, there are some options in Lake Ridge (22192). And a lot more in Stafford County - even some detached single family homes.

The last place we rented, we found using realtor.com. The only negative with using this is that you'll typically have to pay a deposit that equals the first month's rent.

I agree to check Lake Ridge. I have a townhouse there that I'm fixing up a bit to rent - 3 beds, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, basement w/laundry room, and 2-level deck - and we're going to list it for $1400/month. So, within your budget, you should definitelt be able to find something in that area.

This is a stone's throw from Lorton: 8552 Springfield Oaks Drive, Springfield, VA 22153 - House for Rent in Springfield, VA - HotPads

I would think the commute from DC to Lorton would be easy since you'd be going against traffic.

According the website linked above, that townhome is no longer available.

Do you still have the place for rent or do you know any good websites or ways to rent in Lake Ridge . I have a 12yr old daughter ,so safety is a plus. I can only afford a little less than 1,500 for a place just like you have .
