The VRE train schedule says it takes 28 minutes from Woodbridge to Old Town. And that is just the time on the train. So, you need to factor in time to get to the train, waiting for the train, and from the train to your work. Gonna be 40 minutes plus, for the VRE; much much more to drive.

As long as you are an early riser then I think you will find it to be a good location. Can't speak to the school district though here in NOVA we generally have above average schools just about everywhere compared to national standards.

Best advice I can give is to visit here and drive around that portion of the 95 corridor as conditions can vary from neighborhood to neighborhood and to find the right one for you. There are certainly some very great parts of woodbridge/dale city and some less desirable ones as well (as is the case in any suburban region).

Thanks for the helpful advice. The commute to the train station is a factor as well. I know the walk to the job is about 15 minutes. I am definitely going to come do the drive-around when I am down there, I think that will be the most beneficial to me.

I am getting some interesting responses here, and I have to factor in that everyone's perception is very different. I am willing to go more rural to save $$ on housing factors. I am not the person that will pay so much money for the same home or even smaller home just to be closer to the major cities. I want the space and financial comfort ability for my family when it comes time to buy the house. I know I can still get that in VA...NJ is not rational anymore. The commute is a concern but not a deal-breaker for us....I have been blessed to always work for local jobs close to my home, but if I worked in major cities in NJ (ie. Newark, Jersey City or even NYC)...it would be anywhere from 45 min to 2 hrs depending on where you are going. NJ is condensed and traffic is pretty bad here as well. The only good thing is that there are multiple highways that can take you either north or south, and we are constantly expanding highways.

If you know any good realtors, please recommend. I can always let them do the work as well.

I commute (drive) from Lake Ridge to Alexandria and it takes me an average of about an 1 hour each way. Leaving LR at 6am and leaving Alexandria at 4pm.

Thank you..Good to hear from someone who is doing the commute.
