I am moving to Virginia by end of November and not knowing what areas/cities would be safe and affordable,,Alexandria seems to be a decent commute and area or we have also considered Old Town. We have no small children so schools are not an issue,,2 professional adults,,prefer to buy but will rent at first with a short term lease until we get settled to buy, any info would be appreciated,,thanks in advance

Are you both working at Andrews? What do you consider a reasonable commute? How much can you afford to spend on rent? Are you looking for a house, townhouse, or condo, and in what price range?

Default Commuting to Andrews

No, just my husband. I am not working and dont plan on it unless something comes along, We do not get any housing allowance as he is just a Govt employee, as for commute no more than 30-35 min. He did stay in Alexandria . I would prefer a townhouse or single family with 2-3 bedrooms,,,I dont care for highrise living..as for cost no more than 1600.00 hopefully less as for that price I can buy.

Have you thought about Fort Washington MD? It is across Old Town Aalex and probably closer to your place of work. They are building a multi million dollar project (supposedly bigger than Old Town)which opens early spring 2008.

Fort Washington is a great spot, Clinton is also not a bad idea. it's cheaper over in MD and you dont have to deal with the WW bridge.
