My family and I will be relocating to the Manassas area. There is a good chance that we will have to choose our home over the internet and not get to actually see it first. We will be looking for a rental house, apartment, condo or townhouse. Finding a safe neighborhood is the most important thing to us. We are also on a tight budget and are probably looking at $1350 as the most we can afford for now. Here are some of the subdivisions our realtor has sent us. Can anyone give me a yes or no on any of these? I appreciate any info you can offer.

Stoneridge in Manassas
Hunters Square in Manassas
Sentry Ridge Condomenium Manassas
Stratford in Manassas
Rolling Oaks Manassas
Wellington Manassas
Cambridge Square Woodbridge
Hampton HouseWoodbridge
Antietam Square Woodbridge
Dale City Woodbridge
Potomac Hills Staffod
Lake Arrowhead in Stafford
Stafford Oaks Stafford
Highpointe Stafford
Cabin Creekwood Stafford

I see you have a lot of Stafford locations on there....

Stafford can be quite a drive from Manassas...depending on where in Manassas you/your spouse needs to be...how long of a commute are you willing to tolerate?

That is something else we need to think about...somewhere farther away may be cheaper but would we spend all we saved on gas? My husband will be working in the Bull Run area. Thanks for the heads up about Stafford...we know very little to nothing about this part of the country.

I live in Manassas and I'm afraid you may have a problem with that housing budget.

Scratch Woodbridge and Stafford. Too far. Why bother. I'm thinking you can only get an apartment for $1350? Maybe.

Look at the th style condos in Wellington on/near Witchhazel Rd., they are three stories and butted up against each other, so no yard. Might be lucky to get for 1350. I also know a couple paying 1000 for a pretty decent little house in Marshall, and that would be doable to Bull Run. Linden and Delaplane might be worth a look, too farther out I-66.

You need to fire that agent if they recommend a neighborhood like Stoneridge again. Stay out of that place. I realize your budget is not going to allow you to live wherever you want but ask the agent if they would allow their family to live in a neighborhood they are suggesting. If they say yes to Stoneridge then time to find a new one.

Also, there are some older THs on Portner Rd. in the City, 20110 that were renting in that range in 2007. Two levels, no basements, built in the 60s. Very well kept, well lit, convenient location. It appears that they are privately owned. It is a much small er community than GTS, for example, which has a notorious reputation. Might look at Bristoe Station off of Confederate, but I think it is awful, others disagree. I know someone with a TH in 22153, Newington Station that is rented for 1350. IMO, that would be much, much better than Stafford....but to work in Bull Run stay in the I-66 corridor.

I'd look to the west of Manassas. The further you go the cheaper it will be. And the commute to Manassas won't be too bad.
