We got here late last year at the end of Octobr, so we missed most of the fall season. This morning, after the rain has cleared the air and washed everything down, there is the most beautiful hint of fall in the air, and I for one, can't wait to watch it as a "local" for the first time! In Chicago, you'd have a fall season for about 2 weeks, then the first hint of winter would blow through and take all the leaves down. It was too abrupt and I hated it. I'm excited to finally cool down, turn off the a/c in both the house and the car (regain my horse power), hear some college football in the background, and let that sweet feeling of "ahhh...." set in!

Plus, with a 4 year old and 2 year old....I now see the benefit of rolling the clocks back (welp, it's dark, time for you two to go to bed!)

Not sure where you live, but to get a real "Autumn experience" take the kids to one of the farm markets out toward Winchester for a day trip. Some have "pick your own" orchards and lots of cider, pumpkins and beautiful tree colors.

Enjoy!

Well, that's Friday my friend! This morning, there was that ever so slight hint of cooler days ahead. Had to drive in with the windows down, it was so nice. Granted, my hair (or what's left of it anyway) made me look like the mad scientist for the Monday morning meeting, but well worth it.

I went to Florida in late July and returned on August 2nd. I swear, ever since I got back there has been "a change in the air." The angle of the sun is a bit different, the air has a different feel and smell to it, and it's definitely cooler than it was in July.

I think this happens every year and it always surprises me because I think of August as still being the dog days of summer. It really still is summer but there's certainly been a change. The past few days gloom though, I don't think is a sign of autumn.

I also had that sense of "fall is in the air" today. Walking to work this morning I noticed several trees are starting to turn. Not a lot of leaves, but more than I expected--and they're real fall colors, not those orangey leaves you get due to heat stress.

It's probably just a tease, but I'll take every bit of weather like this that I can get, tease or not!

Fall is my favorite season so I can't wait. I noticed my neighbors had already put up a fall wreath and decorations already...I like the sentiment but still think it's a bit too early.

Anybody else notice that the leaves seem to be falling a bit earlier than normal this year? Of course, it could be because of the abnormally dry weather we've had this summer. A lot of leaves on my river birch have turned yellow and started to drop; ditto for the dogwood and a small tulip poplar. They're at least a month ahead of schedule.
