I'm trying to replace my dorm-room era desk in my home office with something a bit more professional. Specifically, I'm looking for an L-Shaped desk with no hutches so I don't obstruct my views. This ( Just About Furniture; L-Shaped Computer Desk - 413670 by Sauder ) is along the lines of what I'm looking for, but I can only find examples online. Before I purchase such a large piece of furniture, I'd like to go test drive a few in person (and ideally, purchase it in person).

I've been to a ton of furniture and office supply stores in the area. The office depots/staples of the world have cheap particle board junk that is suited for a kids bedroom or dorm. The furniture stores might each have 2-3 desks, but none are usually in an L configuration. Is there a large showroom of just desks around here somewhere?

There's a Marlo on I395, just north of the mixing bowl of Springfield, VA: Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland Furniture Stores | Marlo Furniture

It's pretty big, but I've never been inside so I'm not sure what their selection is.

Check Belfort in Sterling.

thanks for the suggestions. Belfort has a lot of stuff, but is generally too upscale (read: expensive) for what I'm looking for. I'll give Marlo another shot. The last time I was in there I was only looking for couches and ignored that stuff.

I've seen lots of ads for Labor Day furniture sales, so that could be good for your wallet, but bad for crowds. I went shopping for a kitchen table at Belfort over Memorial Day weekend (not because of the holiday sale, but because another chair gave out on our old set and we were down to two chairs for four people), and I got a good deal, but it was crazy in there and I had to wait for a while to get help once I was ready to order/pay.

Try Craigslist or an online estate sale--you can get excellent quality very inexpensively (if you don't mind second hand).

Just Cabinets might be a resource, as would be Haverty's, though Haverty's is in the same price category as Belfort. The nearest Just Cabinets is in Frederick, but you can browse their catalog online. I would call, however, to see if they have the particular desk on the sales floor before making the trek to Frederick.
