Have a job interview lined up for Thursday in Manassas Park. I currently live in Orange Virginia and although it's a pretty little town there is not much for job opportunities. I don't hold a college degree but I did go to tech school and I'm a prior service Army veteran who served during the NATO Peacekeeping Missions in Bosnia. The interview is at a BMW dealership, I am certified auto technician by trade and graduated from the US Army OC&S, Aberdeen Proving Ground Maryland, with a technical diploma in mechanics. My wife holds a degree in business.

I think you would do fine with a $100K salary in Manassas, assuming you are not in massive debt or anything. I imagine there is a lot more to do there than in Orange. Thanks for your service to our country!

Manasses is fairly inexpensive by DC-area standards, so I think you could probably do OK there on that salary. I think a 3BR house is about 300K, meaning the mortgage is less than 2000/month--meaning (if my math is right) you will be able to make it work.

Id suggest you look in the bristow region, along Linton Hall. They have some good food options in that part, its a bit safer of an area, and it is a bit more affluent than other parts of Manassas.

This is quite true but we all know San Francisco on $100k is going to be a very different life than Topeka, KS on $100k. That said you will be more than fine on that much money in Manassas. I've happily done with much less than that much further in.

Yes there is San Francisco and New York City. 100k a year most likely wouldn't cut it in DC or Boston either...lol. I hope to make some new friends up in that area, I know there is alot of college degrees so I hope I'm not to judge by deciding to get to tech school over college. Alot of the schools I have been to have been hands on. I've been to Honda and Chrysler factory schools as well.
