I'm surprising my husband for his birthday with Springsteen tickets this Friday (playing at Nationals Park). The options to get there are overwhelming me. I've been doing my research, but I have some questions and would love advice from area experts on the best method to execute my plan.

The logistics: We live south of Old Town. Husband works at the Pentagon. Concert starts at 7:30.

My plan was to leave my house at 5:45 and drive to Southern Ave station, then either metro to Navy Yard and take the Circulator to Barracks Row, or Metro straight to Eastern Market. We live near the Huntington Station metro, but we usually drive and park at Southern Ave for ball games because we can take the "reverse metro" back after the games.

Husband will *hopefully* leave work at 6 pm and, with transfers and such, get to the Eastern Market metro at 6:30. That gives us admittedly not much time to eat and walk/take the Circulator to the concert- 30-45 minutes tops. I'm hoping we can grab a seat at the bar or grab something quick (Would love suggestions on this too). The lack of dining options right outside the ballpark is frustrating!

My questions-Am I leaving enough time to get to Southern Ave station, and Barracks Row, from my house? How is traffic in that direction at that time of day? Is there a better (safer?) station to park at besides Southern Ave? Should I scrap this whole plan and park somewhere near the stadium instead?

Please help me get this plan off without a hitch! Thanks!

Waaaay too hard to get there. Will hit major traffic jams, Metro will likely break down, and you'll probably end up driving in circles for hours and missing the concert all together.

Will do you a huge favor and take the tickets off of your hands for you. Will even give you a gift card to take him to your local Ruby Tuesdays instead...

...But seriously, enjoy the concert. Sorry I don't have any better advice for you

Going north into DC in the evening is not bad at all. I made it from Belvoir to the State Dept in 30 minutes once, leaving at 4:30. Getting to Southern Ave is of course a different route, but I think the general flow of traffic would still be in your favor.

Nice birthday gift!

I'm confused. The Navy Yard is the closest metro stop to Nats Ballpark so why are you trying to get to Eastern Market, unless you were already planning to meet your husband at Eastern Market? I'd plan to meet at L'Enfant Plaza.

As for how you get there, personally I'd rather just hop on the closest metro stop (Huntington) than drive across WW to get to any Green Line stop.

I think they wanted to eat at Eastern Market since there's not really anything right around the ballpark.

Maybe instead of Eastern Market, take the metro to Archives or Chinatown, eat there, then jump back on the green line to the Navy Yard.

You won't lose time transferring, or walking from Eastern Market to the Nats Stadium. But I'd make some reservations though.
