Route 606 Widening: Route 606 will be widened between Evergreen Mills Road and the Greenway to four lanes.
Engineering and design work is currently underway, construction is currently planned to begin this winter.
What it doesn't tell you is that from what I have read elsewhere, this is expected to take forever to complete. And by forever I think it was 3 years. You know, one year less than amount of time to build the Golden Gate Bridge w/ 1930's technology. Or just two years less than the Hoover Dam also with 1930's technology.

This is a 5-mile barren stretch of flat road with nothing on either side for most of it...

Edit, actually found this:
Route 606/Loudoun County Parkway/Old Ox Road

Quote:
Begin Date
Construction early 2015

Est Completion Date
September 2017

Cost
$106.7 million total
So there you go.

The sad part is that this project only widens it to 4 lanes. the long term plan is to widen it to 8 lanes? Why in the world wouldn't you do it all at once? So much cost and time savings doing it all at once. But no, we'll inconvenience people for two years, and then do the same thing two years later.

I received a letter in the mail regarding all the upcoming road changes. This is on the list for sure. The next big one is installing a traffic circle at Pleasant Valley and Braddock....but they are still fighting it out between LC and FC.

I'll admit that I struggle with the route numbers and street name connection. But I think (could very well be wrong though) that you're talking about Belmont Ridge Rd originally going 8 wide and recently got trimmed to 4 instead. It needs it badly too, especially from Goose Creek towards Croson. Dangerous road!

No this is about Old Ox Road. The overall plan is still showing 8 lanes, but only widening it to 4 now.

Maybe I'm wrong, but can anyone really see any need for this to be 8 lanes anytime soon? Seems pretty rural to me. Spend that money on 28.
