We currently live in MD and are thinking to relocate to VA. We were wanting to find a home on a "little" bit of land...mainly just not close enough to see into my neighbors kitchen from my bathroom! I'm not looking for feedback on commutes or jobs as I'm familiar with both living in the area. What I was hoping more for was some feedback on what it's like living in either community. My oldest son is 8 and is big into flag football and soccer. Are there a lot of sports and things around? We have twins who are 3 and haven't yet started anything in regards to sports and things. I've read all the info on schools and their ratings. I guess I'm just hoping someone can offer some detail on day to day living.... are people generally friendly? We're not looking to live in a "keeping up with the Jones'" area but just some place while education is valued as well as "family." In a nutshell- maybe a SLIGHTLY slower pace of life in the neighborhood we live..is what we're looking for. Meanwhile, the rat race continues!

I love it here in Spotsy. I have friends with grade school age kids in every sort of activity you could imagine. I have not noticed a "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality. Some people drive flashier cars than other but I have never seen anyone turn up their nose toward the "have nots"

Thanks, Jacmadhel- I've heard really nice things about Spotsy. From schools to home prices and things in between. But I was just wondering what the people were like- so thanks for your post! I don't mind the flashier cars, or bigger homes or anything like that. I just don't like the mentality of "oh you DON'T go here or do this....who are YOU?" lol If that makes any sense? I appreciate your post.

Sorry. Those notions have been floating around in my head every time either name comes up. Had to let it out.
Rapp: Spotsy is way, way down there. Don't know where you'll be commuting to, but if it's anywhere inside the Beltway, I can't imagine what that commute would be like. (Unless you would be near the VRE.) Have you looked at Springfield?
Looking at the
VRE map , maybe being in east Spotsy would put you close enough to Fredericksburg that you could park/ride at the VRE.

I commute to DC everyday from Spotsylvania. I would look into "slugging" if I were you should you consider commuting from this far South. People are people everywhere. I find that people around here are from everywhere and tend to keep to themselves. I've lived in friendlier places, but the flip side is that no one seems to bother you. Kids are pretty happy with school which helps. I find it hard to make any TRUE friends here. It seems that everyone is too busy commuting and find it hard to relate to people here (that is another topic I guess) Best thing about Spotsylvania is that you can work either in DC or Richmond. The worst thing about it is that depending on what you do for a living you probably won't be able to work in Spotsylvania....but that applies to suburbs substantially further north to a large degree as well.
