See if your insurance company provides a list of infectious disease doctors in the area. Sorry I don't know of any to recommend. There are probably Lyme-specific forums on the web. Perhaps look there as well.

I was diagnosed with the possibility of either Lyme disease or MS several years ago. Turns out it was the latter, but my first stop after the PC physician was an infectious disease specialist. Really liked the fellow, and I would be happy to recommend him....

Dr. Samuel Shor in Reston specializes in Chronic Lyme. I know several people who are patients of his and they say he has been great.

Since Chronic Lyme Disease probably doesn't even exist (see prior posts), one should assume this particular doctor is treating symptoms.

That's the way it works, right?

There's a whole debate as to if a lyme test is accurate, so a chronic lyme doctor bases on the patients symptoms.

I've no interest either way personally. If someone thinks they have lyme and going on $2/month antibiotics makes them feel better than so be it.

Let me guess...you are NOT a doctor?

So, if I think I have a disease, but there is no medical evidence to support that diagnosis, I should just be given the medication anyway??

There are very real and harmful consequences of taking antibiotics long term. Thankfully, most doctors recognize this and don't prescribe medications just because a patient asks for it.

It is not unknown for doctors to prescribe placebos.

Actually prescribing antibiotics (as opposed to, say, anti-itch or anti-inflammatory meds) would probably be ill-advised simply due to potential lawsuits.

But, I guess, it is not unknown for there to be doctors who mis-prescribe to keep "patients" happy, too!
