I live in Sterling and have always done my own taxes, never invested outside of basics like my 401(k), and have done fine so far, but now I have a baby, two houses (just got a tenant for the first that we were too upside-down on to sell when we moved), just changed jobs...I got a recommendation from a friend for a financial adviser in Springfield, but I really don't want to have to go that far. I want someone more local to Sterling. I will need help filing our 2012 taxes and do not have the time/patience to figure it all out on my own. I would also like to discuss investment options (not that we have hundreds of thousands of dollars collecting dust, but we could scrape together a bit to start with - everyone has to start somewhere, right?).

Any personal recommendations?

I've never actually seen either my financial advisor (located in FL) or tax accountant (located in Baltimore). Both were chosen based or recommendations from people I trust. I'd go with the one your friend recommended and handle matters over the phone.
