You could do Burke but you would be pushing close to the $2000 upper limit of the budget. Good schools, though, and a reasonable commute.

Thanks for the help, especially HOV. My thought on the hybrid car wasn't so much cost as it was to get into the HOV. I thought the official website listed vehicles up to 2012. Also, I've been using Zillow and Realtor.com, any local sites for rentals? Thanks

Lake Ridge to Springfield wouldn't be a bad commute at all, especially if you get into the HOV lane-- there's HOV access not far from Lake Ridge.

The cutoff for use of hybrids on I395 was 2006. I beleive they still allow newly registered hybrids on I66. So maybe that's what you are reading?

I like hotpads.com or padmapper.com for rentals. Craigslist is extremely popular here too--I found multiple rentals on there in the past.

If it were me, I'd spend a little more and live closer to work. Someone suggested Burke. IMO, I'd rather spend the extra coin on rent than time/gas/vehicle maintenance fighting traffic to get into work. Lakeridge/Montclair isn't a horrible commute, but to think about doing that day in/day out. You say you have young children right? So there will probably be baseball/soccer/other activities you'll have to rush home to. Just a thought...
