I thnk he's mainly bigoted against tea bircher Republicans. I don't blame him.

I and the others I've known who've had issues with him certainly aren't in that camp. If he was just rude to people of a certain political persuasion, OK, he's a politician. I'd GET that. Being offensive to people (constituents no less) because of personal, non-political reasons? Not so cool.

Is Moran fighting with his constituents instead of fighting for them again?

I like having him around just for entertainment purposes. Perhaps he's mellowed a bit as I haven't heard of him beating anyone up lately. Here's one of his golden oldies:

That's BS. I saw him at a local SE Asian festival, where 99% of people are Buddhist. He was dancing and having a great time. And no, there were NO news media around.

all I can say is I am very happy to no longer be in his district. I met him while I was working for the county board in Arlington. He's a creeper on so many levels. I voted for him just because I'd rather have a D in that seat than an R, but I definitely held my nose as I did it.

Trust me, plenty of people have considered challenging him, but I think there is a lot of party pressure NOT to. I know at least one of the county board members I worked with was thinking very seriously about it. This was early 2000s.

Like most ultra-liberal Democrats, he thinks ALL Republicans are "tea birchers".

Yes.

Yes.
He strikes me as more of an old-style democratic machine politician than an ultra-liberal.

That was easy.

For those interested in the current districts, and how they were last redrawn, this is a useful map. It's hard to find the 8th at first on the larger map, as it's relatively compact:

"Personal likability" is H-U-G-E in politics. As you can probably tell, I am not a big fan of the president, but his likability rating is very high and that's what might keep him in office despite one of the worst economic records in the Republic's history.

Likewise Scott Brown is competitive in Mass. because of the large likability gap between him and Dr. Professional Indian.

Constituent services can make a big difference. Delgaudio is still in office because of a vaunted constituent service machine.

Also competent staffers don't grow on trees. It takes a special personality to work as peons shuffling mail and, on a good day, write constituent mail while getting paid below minimum wage. A lot of competent people don't enter the profession and those who do (or are trained well on the job) are in high demand and are frequently scouted.

The Tea Party and the John Birch Society are very different animals. For starters, the Tea Party people may be fervent small government activists, but are not conspiracy mongers.

You have to stop conflating everything and eveyone you happen to dislike together. Now go back to your country club, you Nelson Rockefeller Republican, you.

One can be both, you know.

As for the GOP in very leftist districts, miracles do happen sometimes, but only very rarely and usually not twice in the same district.
