Ah, I used to have to do this alot actually. To say the least it is not fun.

Toll road to 495 is miserable. It has gotten better after a lot of the silver line construction got out of the way, but it takes between 25-35 minutes to get onto 495 South. Then 495 south is pretty bad until you are clear of Tysons (first few miles). You do ok for a bit, and then you hit some of the Alexandria/Wilson traffic. You can usually jump off at Van Dorn before hitting the tough stuff. I would say about another 25 minutes most days additional. So I would put about 1 hour, to 1hour 15 if you like playing it safe.

I had a reverse commute in the summer on FFX parkway during rush hour for about 2 weeks. Left Kingstown at around 7:30 and arrive at Reston 8:15 almost everyday. The other side of the parkway did not look much worse than my side.

Between Herndon (frying pan) and 66 can be grueling. Past 66 theres some bumpiness around Braddock. Past that there are some lights that can be annoying but nothing too awful. Would still say an hour is appropriate.

I am usually the type of person who is very punctual. I dont like being late to things. Most days you should be fine, but it only takes that couple of times before your employer gets annoyed. Good days = 35 minute drive. Bad days = 1 hour. So take my suggestion with a grain of salt depending on what kind of planner you are.

Just wanted to say that the Van Dorn Exit on 495 has been very fluid for the past few months, I live close to that exit.
