Can anybody recommended a good authentic Mexican restaurant in the Lake Ridge/Lorton area?

The only one I'm aware of in the area is Tacos El Costalilla further North up Route 1 in the Hybla Valley. Not many Mexicans around here so not a lot of that type of authentic cuisine.

A good authentic Mexican restaurant in this area is like trying to find a unicorn. It really doesn't exist. You can speak to any person who moves to this area from other areas that have great Mexican food and they are all sorely disappointed.

The closest I've come to authentic Mexican food was dining down in Adams-Morgan many years ago at a place called Enrique's.

I've heard good things about El Charro in Dale City from numerous people but haven't yet tried it myself. I've also had people say that El Paso is good but I think it's dreadful. I don't even have a high requirement for the Mexican food to be stellar.

I used to enjoy the food at Mateo's in Montclair but that's not really "Mexican" and is considered more of a "Southwest" sort of variation.

I'm just glad you put "restaurant" in the body text. ("I know a guy named Manuel...")

Christine - give the place I mentioned a try and see what you think. Excellent tacos al pastor. It's not Cal-Mex or Tex-Mex but Mex-Mex.

But CAVA, then I'd have to travel to [shudder] HYBLA VALLEY. Oh, I don't know.....

Kidding of course--thank you for the recommendation. I truly don't do a lot of business/shopping/etc in that area so it will definitely be a specfic trip to try it out!

El Paso, on Route 1, just north of Ft. Belvoir, is quite good. Authentic? I don't know. They do serve horchata. But as I recall, the food was mostly Tex-Mex--which suited me perfectly. If you want chocolate mole on your chicken, you'll probably have to go to DC. I ate at a place called Mixtec there (in Adams-Morgan too--go figure) about 10 years ago. Not my thing.

Salvadorean masquerading as Tex-Mex. I'm not a fan. Las Carnitas next to the Aldi does a better job of pretending.

What does that mean? That Salvadoreans are cooking the fajitas?

So if an Irish guy makes coq au vin, using a Paul Bocuse recipe, is it Irish masquerading as French?
