One of the fond activities that I had a child with my family was to ride through various neighborhoods and look at the Christmas decorations where I grew up (NC). I was wondering if there were any particular neighborhoods or areas that I could take my child to in the DC area to look at decorations. I particularly live in Manassas Park. I would be willing to drive a reasonable distance.

Happy Holidays and thanks for any advice.

Juniper Street in Sterling Park used to be known for its Christmas decorations. I say used to be known because I haven't driven down there at Christmas time in years. Plus, with the changing demographics in Sterling Park it's hard to say if the neighbors still decorate.

We do a decent job of it here in Mount Vernon. I'll be doing the annual tour sometime in the next couple weeks.

Check out. http://www.fairfaxchristmaslights.com/. She keeps a good up to date list. Also for a walking tour, Meadowlark Garden in Vienna has a display this year. Winter Walk of Lights

Thanks for the great list, choff5

Does anyone know how much it cost to go to the Bull Run display? Might try it this year.

#17 and #29 off of the list above are really good, and out by you. We saw them both Sat night, and my kids had a great time.

Sadly, Collingwood Lights will be dark this year for the first time after 21 years of an amazing display. This was the best display I ever saw in Northern Virginia.

Juniper Avenue in Sterling Park still decorates quite nicely for Christmas--My family and I went there last December and it was packed--lots of huge decorations and displays, plus the Park View HS band was there doing Christmas songs. It was very nice, indeed. We are planning on going down again this year.

They charge by the car, and this year's rates are listed here, along with a coupon for weekdays:

Bull Run Festival of Lights - Fees

Be aware that you cant get out without driving past the carnival, so either steel yourself for extra spending (the carnival ride tickets are $$$!) or steel yourself for disappointed kids if you keep driving.
