I really want to find out the real scoop on fairfax

We are moving to the area..although not sure
Which area until we decide on schools. My
Husband will work on Ft. Belvoir and we are
Researching the surrounding areas.
Any help or info. Would be greatly appreciated!!

Did you try searching the gazillon threads already posted on the topic?

I sent my kids through them and they're still alive and funtionally literate so I got no complaints.

You should start out by looking at this site: Fairfax County Public Schools

The immediate area around Fort Belvoir is assigned to Fort Belvoir ES, Whitman MS, and Mount Vernon HS. Many people who work at Fort Belvoir also live in the Lorton area (South County HS), Burke (Lake Braddock SS), West Springfield (West Springfield HS), Fairfax/Fairfax Station (Woodson and Robinson HS) and other parts of Fairfax County with Alexandria addresses (including West Potomac HS, Edison HS and Hayfield SS). In addition, others live in other parts of Fairfax County, Arlington County or Prince William County.

As CAVA1990 noted, there are many school-related threads on this sub-forum that you can find by using the "Search" feature.

I would help to know your budget for housing, too--that could potentially limit you to certain school boundaries.

Seriously I sent my two through two different routes: Riverside-Whitman-Mount Vernon and Stratford Landing-Sandburg-West Potomac and both did great. West Potomac has an AP program while Mount Vernon has IB.

That'll get you a 4 bedroom or better in a nice neighborhood here in Mount Vernon.

If you're from C'Ville and AL you're probably used to diverse schools which is what we have here, particularly in Middle and High School. It makes some folks nervous but I wouldn't be too worried about it. The schools are so big the kids usually find their own circle of friends with like interests.
