My child's teacher recommended his name for People to People Leadership Ambassador program. I was wondering if anyone can share their recent experience. My child in in 6th grade and likes the Stanford -Technology Prg.

Reading online we are very confused some are raving about the program and some forum has reviewed as waste of money. Is my child too young to attend this program? We truly appreciate your time and input.

This program is based out of Spokane, Washington. You might find better info on one of the city-data "general" boards vs. simply the northern Virginia forum. Also, they have separate program for high school students where it is more of a travel program.

Well I'm sure any student whose parents shell out the money for this will say it was a great experience; who wouldn't? If you were walking down the street and a travel agent called out your name and you went in and paid a bunch of money for a fancy vacation, you'd have a good time too. The question is, is this a good use of your family's money at this point in your life? These are money-making enterprises relying on the flattery of claiming your child has been selectively chosen to get you to consider an offer that you wouldn't otherwise look twice at.

Re-reading your post, I see you're referring to a specific program, which appears to be new. So my comments above apply to the travel programs that this group has been promoting for decades. Don't want to mislead you that I know anything about the Stanford Program specifically.

No child of mine would be going to anything associated with institution. That said, my one child really enjoyed the All Arts and Science camp at William and Mary. However, it may now be offered at UNC Greensboro. They were the ones who ran the program.

Thank you for all for your respond. I agree it is a big decision to spend 1000s $ for this event.

CAVA1990 The UNC program does look very interesting and it caters to younger group than this one.

Here's one that looks like it's geared toward older kids:

Education Unlimited would be closer to what she was asking about. The People to People program most people are familiar with around here is not, as was pointed out by one of the other posters.
