Consider it a blessing in disguise, Rob. You just never know about people you meet from the internet. Sorry, I know that's not very helpful (and I hope I don't get flamed for that remark). I've never actually met anyone from online. I'm just not brave enough, but I have met really cool people when I am in Arlington, especially Clarendon. That whole area makes me feel alive.

To address your original question about what to do on New Year's Eve, may I suggest Ragtime in Arlington near the intersection of 14th and N. Courthouse Rd? The atmosphere is unpretentious and friendly. The age range is wide. I've had a blast there every time I've visited Arlington. I've probably been there 5 times with different groups of friends, and all like it. We are bar people, not booth people. It's a very different vibe then Circa or Fireworks, more casual. The patrons are always friendly, which makes it my kind of place. Visit before the 31st if you can and see what you think. Hope this helps.

It seems like opinions in general are running day and night - night and day!

Some say "You can keep your UVA 2.0 Arlington, with all of its Man Jose and Man Diego, CA features.

Others tell me I haven't simply been on enough meetups; we've got peoeple on this who say they tried the kickball leagues and meetups and they don't work.

You're saying Clarendon? I can def check out the scene tomorrow night.

Oh, I believe Ragtime is actually at the intersection of 14th and N Courthouse, not 12th as originally posted. I'm going to edit it above, but thought I'd point that out. Sorry about that.

Yes, definitely check it out. I've never been in there on a Sunday. Please post and let me know what you think. Hey, there may be reviews on Yelp as well.

One way I always meet people is by going to the gym at the same time every day. After a while there are many familiar faces. That's always been my best bet for making friends. I think everyone is so happy and friendly from all the cardio!

Sorry you are having such a difficult time. Btw, I don't even get that UVA 2.0 Arlington remark. There are rude people everywhere though, but I still believe there are more good (sincere) people than bad (rude). Hang in there and focus on the positive.
