I posted a couple of threads about moving to NoVA from Ohio and got a ton of feedback on where to look for housing. We have been here visiting since Wednesday and worked with a realtor all day yesterday looking at houses. Can someone who lives in the following areas give me an idea of commute time to Fairfax (Pan Am Plaza - Nuttley Rd.) from the following...

South Ridings community
Bristow
Dominion Valley
Piedmont

Everyone has been super helpful, thank you!

Default Some good, some not good

Commuting from Dominion Valley and Piedmont you do at your own risk. From Bristow or South Riding it's 66 to Nutley street. Simple. Commute times depend upon time of day, but I'd imagine in the worst of times, you could do it in 45 min.

I wouldn't say Dominion Valley or Piedmont is any worse than Bristow, they are within a few miles of each other. In fact it is probably better b/c you can get on 66 prior to the mess at rt 29. My guess is that would make it a quicker commute once the 66 widening is complete.

South Riding is not just right off 66 either - it is a pretty long drive down Rt. 50 to get to it.

Warning: Rt-50 West past Rt. 28 is a nightmare during ~4-6PM if you try to get home to South Riding.

Piedmont is real nice and the commute won't be bad. Like the poster stated prior, you get on 66 prior to the mess on 29.

I stand marginally corrected that Dominion Valley and Piedmont are much worse than Bristow. South Riding is the closest and in the end, close is the name of the game. There are other options than the 4 listed. You can always go east or south of Nutley.
