Dorothy1960 is on a distinguished road
Dale City would be more affordable than Alexandria or Springfield or somewhere closer in. I drive through the Dale almost every day... just like everywhere, it has good & bad. Look around the neighborhoods, see what you like. Lots of shopping close by, and an easy commute with bus or slug. Lots of diversity.

Many people posting all the negatives seem to forget that not everyone has $500-$600K+ to slap down on a house.

Take a look at Rippon Landing, so pretty to drive through there.

I agree. Most of Dale City is not so good. Ever tried looking at Lake Ridge?

All of Northern Virginia is very expensive and pretty stressful with its horrible traffic problems and aggressive drivers. There are some perks with any crowded area in that there are lots of shops, restaurants and activities. However, Dale City has been one of the trashy areas that never looked appealing to me. Unless you have a really lucrative job opportunity you might do better to go to the surrounding countryside of Virginia, hopefully away from Northern Virginia.

Metro stations, etc. This was a planned community just for that purpose and of course the area has grown though the years with pools, and playgrounds.
I agree it was a very well planned concept in the 70's. However when Lake Ridge and areas west were built up most of the original residents left to greener pastures that had HOA's. The majority of Dale City doesn't have HOA's and hence a lot of illegals have moved in. Some houses have A LOT of families living in them. Sometimes this isn't a problem, but a lot of times it is. Beyond that there has always seemed to be a large gang problem with the A-K sections.
