I know it was reported/posted on the "Charlotte, NC..." thread about Harris Teeter (HT) considering sell its corporation. Apparently, HT has asked JP Morgan to research selling its business. The Charlotte Observer and The Wall Street Journal recently reported this information.

I think HT has overexpanded here in the N VA areas. I hope Publix which is expanded to the NC regions will eventually come to the Mid-Atlantic area. Time will tell!

Below is the link for details--enjoy!

Report: Harris Teeter considering sale of company | CharlotteObserver.com (Charlotte Observer's site/info.)

Even though we shop at Whole Foods, Wegman's, Giant, Trader Joe's, Aldi, and other stores depending on the "deals", etc., I still miss Publix since we are originally from GA.

I like Harris Teeter, I do get some things at Giant, Safeway and Trader Joe's but spend the most at HT (it's the closest to me)

Amen. Wegmans is driving me nuts...slowly turning into one giant display case for Wegmans brand food. I want selection because generic is not always worth saving a few pennies for.

Oh my! I missed this news. I've been running around all day. I really like Harris Teeter. They are overpriced on a lot of items, but have great sales. Living in NC now, I shop there almost exclusively. In Virginia, I only went sometimes because there were three grocery stores that were closer to me.

I like Publix a lot, too. We shop there when we visit my folks in South Florida. I'm guessing it would be awhile before they expanded into DC, though. The news is that they are expanding into the Raleigh area next after Charlotte. Publix has great subs. Yum, I could go for one right now!

The story does mention Publix as a potential purchaser of Harris Teeter, so perhaps all those Harris Teeter's will simply become Publix before too long.

Harris Teeter is perhaps the second most overrated grocery store, behind Whole Foods. Harris Teeter has no better selection, and only a slightly better prepared foods/deli section than your average Giant, but their prices are pretty steep.

Now for number 1 in my book, Whole Foods deserves to go out of business. Disgusting corporate politics and business practices that are likely in contrast to 95% of their customers ideals (if any of them bothered to actually research where their money were going), and they manage to jack up prices of mediocre food to insane levels because people somehow believe it's "healthier". The Whole Foods management has pulled the second greatest deception in the world (behind the devil convincing the world it doesn't exist): They have managed to convince a progressive, environmentally conscious customer base that they are some how in line with their ideals, when in fact it might as well be the Fox News Cafeteria.

I disagree with your argument that Whole Foods is not worth the money and should go out of business. Here are some of the reasons why I like to go to Whole Foods. They bring locally grown food and vegetables to store. We don't have time to go to farmer's market but would like to buy locally grown foods. They have better brands with full disclosures like Non-GMO etc. The quality of fruits and vegetables is better compared to other stores. I agree some products are over-priced and we don't buy from there like toilet paper, paper towels etc. There are more choices for any product, the pricier ones are generally the less industrial processed and have more nutritional value. Some of the products we buy exclusively from Whole Foods are dairy, poultry, fruits and vegetables. And also, our Sunday brunches are generally at Whole Foods.

I went to Whole Wallet once and felt like I was being mobbed, I could barely turn around without running into someone.

At Harris Teeter (at least the one on Glebe Road in Arlington) -- I felt like I was about to get tossed out for being insufficiently hip.

LMAO. Go buy your groceries at Walmart and leave the fresh veggies and stuffed olives to the rest of us.
