Default West Springfield/Springfield area schools

Hi,
there is a very good chance we will be moving to the area of Springfield soon. I am very interested in the schools, especially elementary and middle schools. Any recommendations which schools have a good reputation in the Springfield area (area code 22152 seems to be very interesting to us for house buying). Even recommendation what areas to avoid would be a great help. I would appreciate your replies very much, as we are trying to determine if we should go there.
Thanks,
Marion

22152 is West Springfield so you are looking at a good area in terms of community safety, amenities and schools. West Springfield HS is well regarded. I believe Irving MS feeds into it. If you are looking into a home under Irving MS and West Springfield HS, you are looking at the most desirable parts of Springfield.

Orange Hunt Elementary in West Springfield has a German immersion program. There's also Hunt Valley, Rolling Valley and a few other elementary schools in West Springfield that feed into Irving Middle School. Check the Fairfax County Public Schools website for specific information on schools.

Go to FCPS Home Page Redirect Page and click on "Schools and Centers," then near the bottom find "by Pyramid" and click on West Springfield. That will lead you to the listing of web sites for all the schools that feed into West Springfield High School.

We just moved to West Springfield in July and we have two school-aged children (elementary) so schools/neighborhoods and commute were of primary focus for us. We ended up buying in 22152 and our children attend Rolling Valley Elementary and we are very, very pleased. The facility is wonderful, teachers are top-notch, ratios are low, and curriculum is challenging. We also looked very closely in the areas of Cardinal Forest and West Springfield Elementary. Any of those and you can't go wrong in my opinion. I love Springfield!

Good luck in your decision!

Default Are you kidding me

I was in fear for my life when I lived in Cardinal Forest as a child. This was in the early 80s. I had to carry extra money as it was a daily occurance to have a knife in the face to be extorted from. My parents moved to Burke to keep me from going to Irving as they had a good year in that they had only had 8 knifings. That area is no worse than most of DC but for Gods sake dont move a child there

Wow, if you're serious then things certainly have changed! There are some apartments on the north side of Forrester that have some crime, but in general, Cardinal Forest is very, very safe. We moved here in 2005 and love it. We've had kids at Cardinal Forest ES and Keene Mill ES, plus Irving MS and West Springfield HS. All had great experiences. Great neighborhoods, great schools, great location!

I think Cardinal Forest would stack up favorably with most parts of Fairfax County and ANY part of PWC.

Hopefully the OP figured out where to move already since the post was over four years ago.
