There will be better options there. If you want to reserve a little for 1 or 2 mediocre VA brews go for it, but you are giving up better beers for it.

THe non-VA ones.

If you want I can make you a list of the non-VA ones that are much better than any VA beer.

Even DC has better tasting micros than VA.

Tell me about the best ones in Maryland and why they are so good. If I haven't tried it, I'll go on a beer adventure.

I don't want to hijack the thread but I can PM you. What kind of beer you like?

You could also purchase MD beers in VA.

Read the OP. It's a thread about beer, GOOD beer. I want to know which MD breweries you like best and why you think they are so good. Maryland is part of the NOVA beer scene. What's worth the drive for those of us on the wrong side of the river?

cry_havoc with the best of Maryland:

Flying Dog is your best bet. It is not far from NOVA and it is some good beer.

Heavy Seas also makes good beer. They are in Baltimore.

Stillwater is good too. Not sure of the location.

Brewer's art and pubdog are good but not as good as the above.
I've had Flying Dog and Heavy Seas, but not the others. At least a handful of VA breweries compare favorably, if not outright superior. A lot of great beer to be had on either side of the border.

There are many I didnt mention.

MD beers are rated higher. I realize it is opinion, but the critics choose MD beer over VA. VA does have slightly more breweries but it is MUCH bigger in both population and land area. MD + Delaware wouldn't even have the same land area and population as VA.

MD has a lot more breweries in a small area, and they are better. VA has noting to compete with Baltimore. Like I said VA beer isnt bad, it just isnt that good. MD beer isnt that great either compared to other areas, but it is at least one step above VA beer.
