I'm thinking about moving to Fairfax county because i'm tired of making the long communte for the last 3 years to my job in Fairfax. I grew up in MD but i'm getting tired of O'Malley, i really hate that man. I'm a democrate and i didn't vote for him for good reasons. Plus the schools are better in Fairfax compared to Gaithersburg (little mexico). Any thoughts or suggestion. My budget is small, like 1100-1275 for rent. I don't have any friends in No.VA just coworkers, so i'm a little scared. Plus i'll miss all the diversity and braid shops and black beauty supply stores.

It seems odd to make a major change in your life based on disliking a politician. Politicians came and go, and even if you like the ones in Nova now, you might disliked someone voted in after you moved here.

Hard to say if you'd like it here or not. If you're used to using phrases like "little mexico" you may not feel comfortable in northern VA; we're not that big on nicknames and especially not racial ones. OTOH if moving here decreases your commute, that's something you'll like.

Yes, taxes are less in VA...car insurance is too. There is a car tax that people wail about, but unless you drive a Bentley, it in no way runs up your total tax obligation to anything near MD. No local income tax in VA either.

I think OP is exaggerating on Gaithersburg being "little Mexico".

However, I'm really fed up with O'Malley and pretty much the whole gov of MD. Their gun control legislature is ridiculous and the state sen who is behind it is even beyond crazy. I'm getting sick of the whole gov not acknowledging my personal responsibility.

VA isn't perfect either with their dumb social agendas either but if I can get the job in VA, then I'll be ready to go.

If you like O'Malley, than you'll LOVE McDonnell.

"Little Mexico" does not fit as a description of Gaithersburg. Most of the hispanic/Latino people who live around there do not come from Mexico, IIRC. There's plenty of other ethnic groups living in the area, as well.
