We had St paddy's day dinner at a friends the other night and had corned beef and cabbage. Got to thinking I haven't had a good corned beef sandwich since I was in NYC. I know that expecting a towering Carnegie deli sandwich would be too much. But anyone here come close?

I'm in Arlington.

I haven't been to any of the non-kosher delies around here lately other than Celebrity Deli, where I did not get meat the one time I was there. I've recently been to Eli's, a kosher deli in the district, which I thought was very good, though I didn't have the corned beef.

Bernie's deli in Fairfax has good corned beef sandwiches. Very yummy! Haven't found anywhere in Loudoun County so far.

Bethesda, Rockville or Chevy Chase may have what you're looking for. Most of the jewish population tends to reside in those areas, so I would assume there are some good jewish Delis up there.

Chutzpah in Fairfax/Fair Oaks area. Bit of a hike from Arlington, but if you can like it, you can get some deli to-go as well.

Whitlow's has excellent corned beef, just not (far as I know) in a sandwich.

Unfortunately the best places this area has to offer are on the MD side, as previous posters have mentioned.

Here are a few places to try:

VA
- celebrity delly - falls church - http://www.celebritydeliva.com
- chutzpah - fairfax - http://www.chutzpahdeli.com/

MD/DC
- brooklyns - potomac - http://www.brooklynsdelimd.com/
- parkway deli - silver spring - http://theparkwaydeli.com/
- eli's - dc (dupont) - http://www.elis-dc.com/
- corned beef king - olney - http://cornedbeefking.com/

This place (Attman's Delicatessen - Baltimore Maryland - Corned Beef - Pastrami - Sandwiches - Lunch) is coming to Potomac this spring and is supposed to be great!

Here is an article: Attman's Deli opening Potomac location - Baltimore Business Journal

Hope that helps!

Kills me that Chutzpah isn't kosher since it has everything else going for it w/ quality of food and service, but it's still become a favorite for my family over the past eight or so years.

Also not kosher, but Stachowski's has pastrami and 24oz sandwiches that will make a trip into Georgetown well worth it. Stachowski's Market
