I have just accepted a job in Reston which I need to start on the first week of July. After looking into rental prices, I think it would be a much better financial decision to go in on a 2 bedroom apartment with a roommate.

What is the best way to find a roommate? Spammers seem to be the only ones who respond on Craigslist. Is there a local website directed at roommate finding?

I am coming from the Pittsburgh, PA area. I am 24 y/o and a fairly laid back individual who also likes to go out and have a good time occasionally and an all around sports fan.

Any suggestions?

My husband moved up ahead of us for 6 months and he has found his on Craigslist. You do get some spam, but you have to look at the posts to see if they are realistic. I still think that is the best answer. I will ask him if he has any other suggestions.

You are right. It is a good idea. A lot of people do that and it really saves you a lot of money until you can afford get your own place or feel comfortable enough to do so. You may get lucky and make a good friend, who knows? Good luck!

im thinking of looking for a roommate myself, this site is a great start at getting info about the area. you do get scammers on Craigslist but a lot of it is legit. you can also try roommates.com and reasonableapartments.com , who knows, you may even find a good roommate here good luck with your search.

I found (what I think is) a legitimate roommate using Craigslist who is a similar situation as I am and also around the same age. Most of the responses I got from Craigslist were single parents and other situations that I certainly was not interested in.

Anyway, this roommate and I are checking out a place this coming Saturday at Parc Reston. It is a 2br condo that the owner is renting for $1500 which seems like a good deal. My budget is $1200 so this place (and having a roommate) certainly fits the budget.
