I remember the last time and it was bad. I will have to stay indoors from mid-April till end of May and also to run between my car and buildings!

I don't think its been 17 years sense the last time, no way. It must be a different brood this time around and or it could be a brood from the hills not the DC area

I was thinking the same thing. I remember telling my 5 year old that the next time this happens, she would be 22. She's only 16, so maybe this is something different?

There are broods every year, some are more and some are less depedning upon the brood and region. I believe the bad ones here are Brood X (2004) and Brood II (2013). So, I think most people remember the 2004 event, more so than the 1996 event.

I think the 17 year cicadas have come in 1970, 1987, and 2004.

I don't think these cicadas fly much. The flying ones are the annual ones, no? These guys burrow.
