Unfortunately it's been hard for me to find someone who meets all those criteria, hoping for a recommendation in the Reston area. Used to go to Reston Automotive, they changed mgmt and suddenly charged high prices for work I was told by others didn't need to be done. Switched to Hunters Woods Exxon, found the best guy there I could ever imagine, and now he left. New guy screwed me so I won't go back there now. Anyone have someone they really trust to do right by them?

Not in Reston, but Capital Car Care is honest, trustworthy, reliable, and reasonably priced. 7978 Forbes Place, Springfield VA 22151 (southwest of 495/Braddock Road, off Port Royal Road, south of Ravensworth Shopping Center). 703-321-8981. Good luck!

I absolutely trust my mechanic 100%, and he's always felt really affordable compared to what other places used to charge me. They always take the time to explain exactly what they find wrong with my car, and give me options (e.g. "x needs to be replaced immediately. Y needs to be replaced in the near future, but you can go another 6 months before it's imperative. Z is looking a little sketchy, we can either clean it up and see what happens for $20, or replace it for $100, which would you prefer?")

Backlick Road Service Station - Annandale, VA

They're in Annandale, so it'd be a bit of a trek for you, but if I moved to Reston tomorrow I'd still probably drive my cars to them.

I posted this a long time ago in the Fav. Business thread (you might want to check there) - we absolutely trust the Shell at Duke & Pickett - Alexandria.

I second this recommendation. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they do a fantastic job. I trust them completely.

Dranesville Auto on Rt 7 in Herndon. Very very good. But, be prepared to wait a few weeks for an appointment, as everyone else also knows how good they are.

Default Honest, reliable...car mechanic

Try either Washington Consumer's Checkbook in their review of auto services, or try cartalk.com. There is a page on there known as "mechanix", which operates a bit akin to Zagat's. I usually pick the place that has the most recent positive reviews.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately seems like most recommended places are going to be too far to really be practical.. Will check out Dranesville and thanks for the online guides, wasn't aware of those.
