There are at least two threads on the NoVA message board about salaries, including links to sites that compile salary datapoints. Search "salary" on this board.

check PayScale - Salary Comparison, Salary Survey, Search Wages or Glassdoor – an inside look at jobs & companies to get an idea. Just put in the job title and area.

i know having experience with c++ around here for starters lands you around 65-70k and there is a reason for it. Java is lot easier and from what i understand salaries range from 50-65k. the problem with java is there are many more people available for it vs the number of c#,c++,object-c people (and that's due to the number of local universities asking for java in IT majors).

i've taken courses in college for both (java first then c++).
