Alexandria has some of the most disgusting tap water I've ever tasted. I'm back in Fairfax now and it's not much better here either. Thank god for ZeroWater.

That's a drop in the bucket compared to pretty much any food. Even if you were on a 1500 mg of sodium per day diet, that's only 4% or your recommended intake.

Do people still actually drink tap water directly from the tap?

Every since my mother had bladder polyps removed and I was told that they are caused by the impurities in tap water by the Dr. - I have switched to bottled.

Bottled is no safer than tap. In most cases, it actually IS tap water, just filtered and/or purified.

It is a big deal for people on a sodium-restricted diet. It's hard to find anything without any sodium in it, so every little bit counts. My mom's doctor told her to restrict her salt. When she asked him how much she was allowed to have each day, he said "none." Drinking water is one place where you don't expect to get any. She drinks spring water, though.

You sure you weren't just getting some of the sewage water over in that swanky condo next to the treatment plant?

In all honesty, I have no issues with Alexandria's City water. I run all my water through a britta, but I don't really care about the filtration, I really just want a nice looking pitcher to put in my fridge and get it ice cold (I rarely ever change the filter). The worst tap water I've ever had belongs to Washington DC. Of course, I don't recall it being bad when chilled when a friend lived in Dupont, but lukewarm out of the taps at work is disgusting, tastes swampy. For reference, I've lived with well water, mountain water, rural reservoir water and city water at various points in my life.

HAHAHAHAHA. I guess 9/10 doctors only recommend reverse osmosis water these days, huh? How ever did we survive before bottled water hit the market in the early 90s? What savages!
