Quick question on property taxes.

If the homes tax value is 500,00 and the Loudoun County tax rate is 1.235 then that will be the total property tax on the property, $6175. There is no state, city or other entity placing a tax burden on the property.

That's correct.

500,000 / 100 = 5000 x 1.235 = 6175

Depends on where you live. The State of Virginia does not impose a real estate tax, but certain cities and towns do.

Don't forget that there are also personal property taxes - on cars, boats, RVs, etc.

I don't know if Loudoun has any cities or towns that have an additional tax. I lived in Town of Vienna. We paid Fairfax County tax, and Town of Vienna tax, along with personal property tax.

Yes, some do. Middleburg, Lovettesville, and parts of Leesburg are the three that come to mind. Likely more.

Thanks, if anyone knows a web location that gives more information on Loudoun cities that tax property it would be helpful.

You made the same mistake I did in 8th grade that lost me a bunch of points on a homework, haha. Yes, I remember this almost 2 decades later.

What you wrote technically isn't correct - you tried to save time/space and have it more condensed yet still show the middle step, but the syntax became off but with the equal signs.

500,000 / 100 = 5000; 5000 x 1.235 = 6175
or
500,000 / 100 * 1.235 = 6175

or maybe (and I'm not sure if you're allowed to do this either since it's my own shorthand and technically an ellipses has specific meaning):

500,000 / 100 = 5000..... x 1.235 = 6175

Or finally, how I actually do these on a calculator, even though you lose the explicit concept of "per $100": 500,000 * .01235 = 6175

Loudoun's towns will typically have a small street number in the address.

You will then pay the town tax on real estate and personal property in addition to the county taxes.

I'm sure you can also call the relevant town hall or county switchboard and find out a definitive answer about a property.

Loudoun breaks down your improvement and land at different value. So depending on the total assessed value you can calculate by 1.235.
