What michgc said. I would not make such a major decision based solely on the availability of an AAP program. You might consider checking some other websites focused on gifted education in northern Virginia -- parents of these students are great resources and can give you inside information comparing these programs. Your kids will only be in elementary school for a few years. Middle and high school gifted education issues are a whole nother issue.

Great post michgc, full time AAP is what I'm targeting, hoping not to compromise.

Thanks claremarie. Can you share any of those links to other NoVa gifted websites, regarding Middle Schools, any recommendations?

And car54, while I do enjoy a good slice, I'm more of a rice and beans type of guy, which I know will be a challenge here, Lol.. Thank goodness the wife is a good cook, I'm trusting we can find the products we use...

You all are helping me through this process and I'm grateful for the info.

Schools in NOVA are overrated and my son was in AP, pizza stinks, no good bakeries or bagel shops, housing is more expensive, and people are stuck up and really dislike NY/NJ people - just my experience

My Bogota MIL was happy to have people converse with her in Spanish here in NoVa. But the Central Americans/Bolivians have a rough time with her accent. And they keep thinking she Venezuelan.

The area is much more conservative than this Forum leads you to beleive. I am very comfortable talking about my Political and Social Conservative views here. That doesn't mean you won't have Liberal friends, there's just lots of Progressives (Falls Church City) Conservatives (Western FFX) and Libertarianism (Front Royal, F'burg) dotted about the area. You'll have all sorts of friends- I like that. I have a friend in CT who has no friends because she is very intimidated about expressing her views. Its sad.

I'm assuming you are Roman Catholic. FYI This Arlington Diocese is one of the most conservative and orthodox in the US. For example you may need a Pastors note from your Geographically assigned parish if you wish to attend a different one. Bishop Loverde is awesome and I adore our Parish.

There's some good pizza and bakeries.

Bakery: Silva's in Vienna
Pizza: Pupatella or Piola in Arlington. 2Amys in DC
Bagels: Absolutely no luck. They all stink. Nothing close to NY bagels anywhere.

Thanks for the posts everyone.

leighland, yes we're Catholic, not that we go as much as we should, but go to know, especially since my oldest is approaching communion age and it should help us meet people and grow into the community.

FCNova, you are so right, I'm easy to please as well, we're just going to need adjustment time.

I'm heading down with the family this weekend to scout and nail down a rental.
Staying in Reston area hotel, any cool activities going on this weekend? I would appreciate any comments on things to do that would give us a quick snapshot of life in the area.

Thank you in advance!!
