We are thinking moving to Merrifield area for like a year until we settled into Nova. My wife will be going to GMU and I will be working downtown DC. I am thinking catching Dun metro orange line to Metro ctr then transferring to Judi station. We have a 7 years old that will be in 2nd grade soon. His would be assigned elementary school would be Camelot ES which has a great rating at
Camelot Elementary School - Annandale, Virginia - VA - School overview

What you think about overall area? We will be there for short term (1-2 years max). As for rental cost...we already have that figured out

I think it's a pretty decent area overall that is only improving with all of the businesses going in. I'm not familiar with Camelot Elem.

I work in this area but I don't live there. Now that the road construction has improved there it's easier to get around. It's a safe area and close to Tyson's and other NOVA points.

It's a nice area with retail ranging from affordable supermarkets in strip malls along Lee Highway and Arlingon Boulevard to more expensive/fun yuppie stuff in the new Mosaic District center near Lee and Gallows.

Only question I'd have is, if you're looking at a place like Woodburn Village near Inova Fairfax, which is within the Camelot ES district, whether there is a lot of noise from vehicles or helicopters going to the hospital. I don't know whether that's the case or not, but I'd ask.

Hi there. I am thinking about Van Metre or Amberleigh. Anyone has experience with those places?

You know theNorth/South Camelot ES boundaries are approx. Rt 50 Arlington Blvd/Little River Tnpk?

Pine Spring's approx North South boundaries are Gallows/Lee Hwy/ Arlington Blvd.

You can also bump into Shrevewood Ele.

The boundaries are really fluid right now due to the massive amount of condos that are being added to Merrifield so quickly.

You cannot trust the maps as they do shift from home to home. You're going to need to contact each school to see whose you are in.

that's a good point.

I checked FCPS Boundary Locator

Amberleigh shows Camelot ES as assigned school while Fairfax Sq has Daniels Run Elementary which is slight worst then Camelot ES. Pine Spring would be bad! LOL

Mantua ES, Fairhill ES are within distance which are good schools. Those across the beltway is bad

It might be a little more complicated than relying on, what, Great Schools ratings.
