Lol I'd like to see the freeways in the good parts of town because it can't be pretty annoying getting to Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, etc.

Count me in among those who thinks building a freeway right by the white house was not a good idea. I can't imagine how ugly DC would look if some of those plans went through.

Also taking 395 to route 50 is not a bad alternative to the beltway when it is terrible. In fact I did this when going from Manassas to Ocean City a few months ago because there was a huge accident on the beltway. The biggest problem IMO is that drivers don't plan and look at traffic before they go when there's about a million different routes to get somewhere if theres a huge incident on one route.

So an actual answer to this question: construction. There has been daytime construction on the outerloop for the past couple of months for various items, none of which are very visible, except for the recent paving in Springfield around Van Dorn and back towards the Mixing Bowl. The paving work obviously slows traffic when coming off the ramp from 95N and from merging traffic in from Van Dorn, and farther down past Telegraph, there's frequently been a lane closed in the Thru lanes, sometimes right until the afternoon rush begins.

I don't think he was talking about driving out an entire community, but rather doing something else with the public housing. The Cabrini-Green projects in Chicago could illustrate what happens when you simply group together poverty-stricken people, rather than mixing in subsidized housing within normal, "wealthier" neighborhoods, as in Arlington. The area in question, Anacostia, could still hold its heritage as a predominately black community while shaking off the poor decisions of past.

You should look at how Shaw has gentrified while holding onto its roots with Howard University.

No, I think they did, the poster in question was always complaining about the poor, rednecks, veterans, minorities, etc. I'm really not interested in speculating though.

However, adding to what you said Anacostia is a whole area. Cabrini-green was a housing project. While Anacostia may have projects in it is also a working class, mostly black community, full of home owners who don't appreciate being called ghetto or driven out of their homes. There are some bad people sure, but mostly people there are good people who work hard.
