That's not a bad idea either, but Landmark Mall has already submitted to the City their redevelopment plans and Alexandria seems to be on board with those plans.

I too hate the idea of paving over green space, but this area is only becoming increasingly urban and athletic amenities such as this are needed. In my opinion, I'd rather see something like this being built rather than another stupid overpriced cookie cutter condo/overpriced chain restaurant/retail development.

Seeing how the only real attraction in that part of Alexandria is the movie theater by Eisenhower Metro, I'd hope this athletic complex development would be a net benefit to the community

What's currently there isn't really green space- it's athletic fields. Even as it is now, I think you have to reserve the fields and pay before you use them, so it's not really a park that's open to just anyone.

Doesn't seem like a huge loss to me to replace an outdoor athletic complex with an indoor one.

It's not really close to the Metro. It's more than a mile away.

Still, though, it's an athletic complex, not an office building or residential complex. I don't think this alone is going to cause traffic jams any more than the nearby waterpark does.
