I'm coming back home after living in the TN sticks for a few months. I have a job waiting in Dupont Circle, but I will be crashing in Woodbridge...I have no recollection of whether or not the public transportation even exists in Woodbridge. As long as I can get to the Springfield/Franconia Metro, I can survive. I know that area well, but not Woodbridge at all.....any tips or websites I can visit??? Thanks!

Look at the prince william county bus service. They have a number of commuter buses into the district and Arlington. If you can find a slug line near where you're staying you could catch a ride from there. Also there are some VRE lines, maybe look at a foldable bike for getting to the transit point.

There's a commuter bus called OmniRide (not sure if I got the name right) that goes from Woodbridge to the Pentagon. It may go to other locations. From the Pentagon you can ride the Metro into DC.

This is definately doable by "slugging" in - this means essentially hitching a ride with people that are enroute to DC. The lot you are looking for is right at the corner of Old Bridge Rd and Rt. 123 - we used to call it the Hechingers lot because the old Hechingers store was there. Anyhow, just tell drivers you want 18th street all the way down to M or further and you will be within a few blocks to work.

then, coming home, take the metro to the pentagon and catch the slug line home from there. You may need to ask around a bit to find out where it is. It has been a few years since I have done this and things I'm sure have changed around some.

Good luck!

Here are three options -

VRE - Virginia Railway Express Home Page
OmniRide - PRTC - The Ride That's Right For You
Slug Lines - Slug-Lines.com - Slugging and Slug Lines Information For Washington DC

The short answer is, yes, you can get from Woodbridge to Dupont without a car. The specific link for the OmniRide line to get you to Springfield/Franconia Metro is Prince William-Metro Direct AM Schedule. Alternatively you can take VRE from Woodbridge to Springfield/Franconia (or further in, all the way to Union Station and then bounce on the Red Line to Dupont) - the map for that is Station Map.

Welcome to Prince William County!
