Planning to drive out to Sterlng and Ashburn this weekend to seek housing - a townhome or home rental that is preferably in walking distance to one of the Loudoun County commuter bus park and ride lots.

If anyone can point me in the direction of recommended neighborhoods, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks, C

Dulles North parking is located in a commercial area. There is some commuter parking at Christian Fellowship Church, which is also in a commercial area. I know there is a shuttle bus that runs from various neighborhood streets in Ashburn Farm to the commuter lots but I don't know if they are free or what their schedules are. I just can't think of any walkable neighborhoods near the commuter lots. Sorry.

Try looking around the Cascades community in Sterling/Potomac Falls, VA. The Loudoun Commuter bus stops near the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church at the intersection of Cascades Pkwy and Algonkian Pkwy. There are townhomes along those roads as well as a condominium community nearby called the Riverbend of Cascades.

There are also runs that stops at Community Lutheran Church in Cascades which is along Palisade Pkwy. Along that stretch there are townhomes and SFH that may be rental options as well.

This commuter bus goes to West Falls Church Metro Station only.

Broad Run Farms, Cascades, Our Lady of Hope & Lowes Island Schedule

In Cascades, theres also A Commuter bus stop in front of Food Lion, intersection Lowes Island Blvd and Algonkian. I believe there are 50 or so parking spaces, and many people also walk to it. I'm not sure how many buses use this, but there is at leat one that goes to West Falls Church metro.

Good point. Just FYI to the OP, this is the same route that I'm referring to in my previous post. It's the last stop before heading directly to West Falls Church Metro Station; however, there are only (3) buses that make this stop! Bus #902 @ 5:57AM, #905 @ 6:52AM, and #907 @7:52AM.

Brambleton has a commuter lot. The bus goes to Rosslyn and D.C. Here is the schedule. The lot itself is on Creighton Road, east of Belmont Ridge Road (map is on last page of schedule).

Thank you all. In terms of commute times, do you think there's any appreciable difference between Brambleton, Cascades, Sterling, etc. - isn't the most clogged part of the trip, the second half (going in) and first half (coming back home)?

Thanks

Where are you commuting to? The Brambleton bus will take you all of the way downtown. The Cascades / Sterling bus only takes you as far as the West Falls Church Metro.

as others have said your best bet is to go on the loudoun bus service sites to see the pickup/drop off stops and the route times available and base your search on that. Cascades is nice area and is walkable to the LoCo bus service to the metro but ashburn has the buses that go downtown. You can gauge the actual trip times based on the schedules that the site posts.
