VRE used to be a nice option. Even when there were just a few trains each way, when they started out with 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening.

Now I can't get a seat out of Crystal on even the later trains. The only ones I can count on a seat for are the 517pm (VRE 331) and 701pm (VRE 337). And the competition for seats, especially in the knots of folks lining up at the anticipated door stop sites, is overwhelming.

Does anyone think there's any chance for greater VRE capacity in our lifetimes?

I don't i have to look , eventually VRE has plans for service every 30-45 mins off peak , bi-direction. Every 20-30 mins peak. There are plans to build a Massive statewide network , servicing almost all the cities and Electrify the Fredricksburg and Future Richmond line. Outside NOVA service would be every 30-70 mins , bi directional except on the Richmond line. That service would be every 20-30 mins factoring in Amtrak and VRE. All of this should be built over the next 2 decades.

New lines will be ....

Haymarket Line - 43 miles
Culpepper Line - 67 miles
Cross State Intercity line (Lynchburg - Richmond) 145 miles
Norfolk line - 109 miles
Roanoke line - 51 miles
Lynchburg - Culpepper line - 104 miles
Richmond Electrified line - 116 miles

Can you elaborate more on those lines? I am curious about them. Thanks

Considering this was three years ago and there isn't anything new about them, I'm not sure VRE is serious about expanding now. The only thing listed in their current projects is a study for Gainesville-Haymarket.

The guy who posted that is still very much active on here, so there is a chance he'll notice this thread again. And I don't care if there is anything new about those ideas. I was asking for more elaboration on those lines, from him or someone else with the same knowledge.

And Haymarket for whatever reason seems to think VRE will bring the criminal element to its fair town.

I've Googled on various rail-related websites and you could probably take VRE out to Marshall -- there's some sharp curves around Hume that you'd have to straighten (at a large cost).

I had thought the builder of that huge development in Caroline was going to try and get the Fredericksburg line extended further down.

Which rail-related website did you use?

And I'm sure those lines will be straightened out in the future, as I think NS will add a second track along the B-Line. Straightening out certain sections makes logical sense if they were to add a second track.

They're confusing it with the Silver Line.

Thats funny, cause I am worried the criminals in Haymarket are going to start showing up in Tysons from the new train.

I Googled "VRE Front Royal" and one of the results was a rail forum. And I hadn't heard about a second track -- VRE to Front Royal could make sense in that case (or have buses from Front Royal/Winchester.)
