Trick or treaters started showing up at my house around 6:40p. First year here so it was good to find out the "start" time!

They started showing up here around 5:45. Even with the stairs, getting more takers than I expected. One of the first kids said "This is for my dad, since I don't like chocolate." What a racket!

Well, because of the rain, not that many kids came tonight... Lots of leftover candies here.

Yes! What a BUMMER!

Anywho, the first arrivals happened at 18:35 and, as of this post, are still going on intermittently but I think that (dastardly) rain stopped a lot of the wee ones from being escorted around.

[three teenyboppers just came by - totally without costumes - no shame, no shame! At least when =I= was a teenybopper (ahem...almost half a century ago...gulp!) I at least TRIED to appear to have a costume!]

BTW - we've had at least 66 so far (keeping count but not doing it very accurately "How many was that again? Uh...I forget...").

My wife will be serving up a lot of candy to her collegues...

We didn't get much rain, and the turnout was slightly heavier than last year. Thought we were done with a couple of teenagers at 8:30pm, but sure enough a group of three 5-6 year olds came by at 9pm. Little late, but we still had everything on and open.

If you are looking to get rid of your extra candy - residents at shelters, nursing homes and assisted living facilities would enjoy it.

I bought 6 bags of candy and 45 glow sticks...and I now have just a handful of twix and snickers left. The kids came in hordes! I had budgeted at least a full bag or two extra for my pregnant self to snack on over the next couple months. Guess I'll have to go without!

Halloween is the night when I remember how much I love my neighborhood. Other places I've lived in NoVA as an adult, the kids were rude, greedy, trampled through plants, didn't wear costumes...but every child who came to my door last night was polite, said thank you, took 2 treats just like I asked them to, and many of them had really sweet things to say about my pumpkin carvings and minion-painted pumpkins!

OK, I just spent time inspecting my child's booty and I am pretty disappointed. Man, the Costco/Walmart big variety bags from the big candy manufacturers have really limited the variety of candy given out. Mostly Nestle, Toostie Roll, and Mars corporation products.

5 or more starbursts, M&Ms, Reese's mini-cups, Snickers, Milky Way, Three Musketeers, Nestle Crunch, Butterfingers, Nerds, Skittles, Tootsie Rolls.

No Rolos, Life Savers, Mentos, Dip sticks, Bazooka Gum or Double Bubble, Pop Rocks, Sour Gummies, 100,000 Grand Bars, Whatchamacallits, Goobers, Raisinets, Snowcaps, Lemon Heads, Pez, Jolly Ranchers, Ghirardelli, Lindt, Spree, Runts, Cowtails, Pixie sticks, Milk Duds, Bit O' Honey, Jelly Bellys, or Candy Corn.
