Hey everyone, so I'm new to the forum and am apartment hunting. A little background on me: Was military (Airborne Infantry) down at Bragg, now I am out and moved back into the area.

I'm looking in the Alexandria area and my girl friend and I visited Riverside apartments and we really liked the new building, building 1. It's renovated and so far for 800sqft and the new appliances etc. it seems to be the best price, $1369 before utilities and parking.

However, I can't help but notice apartmentratings.com and while I take it with a grain of salt, 17% approval rating is pretty bad. I also understand that apartment living usually has the typical "apartment problems" like with maintenance or the staff etc. So if anyone lives here or in the new building I'd really appreciate the honest feedback. Or if there is a better option for around the same price, no more than 1600 after everything is said and done.

Also, side comment, I also checked out the Aventine of Alexandria, any feed back on this place? Seems like there are lots of fees which may be a deal breaker, 5 dollars per guest after 8pm... Seriously?

Anyway I apologize if this is something I could have searched, for whatever reason the search button isn't working and I googled "city-data northern virginia riverside apartments" to see what popped up from this forum but nothing is really current, everything is from a few years ago and things change.

Appreciate the guidance everyone!

I had a friend who lived in Riverside until a few years ago although she didn't live in a renovated building. Their community center is a relatively new amenity. The typical resident will be a professional who is looking for convenience to the nearby Huntington Metro station - there's a free resident shuttle bus - or to the practically adjacent Beltway/I-495. It's a gated community although my wife and I would sometimes be waved through at the gate without security calling our friend first. Other than that, you're obviously aware that dissatisfied residents are the most likely to leave reviews on sites like that.

I considered Riverside in my apt search. If I didn't have to commute to VA Square I would not have had a problem living there. My only concern is parking after 10pm which in my experience is a common problem in Alexandria complexes.

Virginia Square as in near the metro stop? I also work in Virginia Square. How bad is the commute from Riverside to Virginia Square? It's 9-10 miles away but I could see that traffic could make the commute longer.
