hi,
i currently have FIOS and generally happy...however, i'm getting rid of phone and TV, and ONLY need internet.
Fios is trying to charge me 74.99 a month for just internet 15/5MB (no contract).

are there any other alternatives to consider? what do you have if not FIOS?

ps. dishnetwork won't work as they're not available in my area apparently.

I think Comcast or cox serve the area. even Adelphia might serve them, not sure. as I think they do out in ashburn. plug your zipcode/address in and see if they serve them.

Google "Verizon fios internet only".

I was looking for it too and its impossible to find the internet only plan via their website that isn't associated with the bundle, but I did find it. And by "it" I mean a cheap Verizon plan since they're my building's only internet provider.

15/5MB for $35/month with two year contract, $40 with no contract. Also, don't talk to anyone over the phone, do it all online if you don't want to pay a ridiculous "internet activation fee", which is probably their commission.

You also don't have to use a social security number to get a modem.

Note that the $35 is from my "Billing Estimate". I just signed up and won't receive my actual bill till later this month. Will they add a bunch of extra fee's and what not? The lady I chatted with on the Verizon website said they'll only add tax.

So far the internet and router work great. If it really is only $35 with no other surprise "fees", I'd be quite happy, which I think is a fair price for broad band internet with a free router.

In Virginia, Verizon offers 15/5 Internet for $49.99/mo. You can add local channels for $15/mo more. These are the options I see when I login to my account at Verizon.com.

If you are a college student, Verizon offers some discounted bundles:

Ha, I went back and searched and can't find it either. Maybe there was a promotion going on? The cheapest I can find now is 49.99 for a year on a 2 year contract :-/

I hope they honor the price in the "estimated bill" they sent me.
