I've driven older cars till now, so I never cared about scratches, and don't know where to go for any kind of body/paint work. Buttt now I have two scratches on the each side of the car that aren't very big or long but very noticeable.

Can a dealer handle this? Or do I go to a body or paint place? How much should I expect to pay?

Any help would be appreciated.

I used the mobile car doc: The Mobile Car Doc, LLC to fix scratches and a dent on my bumper. He came to my house and it took maybe an hour. I think it was about a year ago and my bumper still looks great. You can send him pictures and get a rough estimate.

impossible to estimate what it would cost over the internet. too many variables..

most dealerships sub out their bodywork/paint jobs to a local shop. I'd ask the service dept at your dealer who they use and go from there. when I needed my rear bumper to be resprayed, I just dropped it off and grabbed a loaner. their painter picked it up, went and did the work, and brought it back to the dealer

Go to a body shop. You will get free estimates. They will do the best work with the repainting in small areas.

Thanks for this referral. You usually can't get into a dealership or body shop for less than $500-$800 - you're paying for some pretty serious overhead and mechanics making $75+ per hour and paid for the full hour even if your job takes 1/2 that. Not to mention lost time from work or a rental car. We need more of this kind of services.

If its just a scratch, just buy a rubbing compound from a local auto shop.

Thanks for The Mobile Car Doc mention. I'll check them out. My VW dealer has a guy who comes in once a week to handle body repair. Perhaps your dealer has an arrangement like that, too. I'm sure this VW guy is not cheap. My neighbor went to Chernier for some repair work and was very happy.

First estimate: $850.

Because the paint may not match 100%, they want to do the doors with no scratches as well. And the rear quarter panel as well. All for two small, but sorta deep scratches.

Ugh I'm never buying a nice car again.

Wow. I don't know where you live, but I have used Pope's Auto Body and Paint on Draper Drive in Fairfax a number of times (I used to get rear-ended a lot). I would recommend them. Mr. Pope is honest and fair.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look them up and see what they say.
