My kids enjoyed Williamsburg in any season, including Christmas time, and they loved Great Wolf Lodge, though I wasn't so impressed. But a warm water park during cold dreary months can be a nice break, and they have other activities for kids, too.

Like someone said, it's nice to be at home to celebrate the holiday but you could visit
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania's Christkindlmarkt up until the weekend before Christmas.

Great suggestions..what I have discovered recently is everything is already booked! Seems other people plan their lives..wth.
We just did a wonderful trip to NYC - did Disney to death when we lived in FL. We are very outdoorsy types, but just don't ski.
I'm actually all for staying home, snuggling on the couch while unwrapping. We will still do the gifts, but my husband finally wanted to take advantage of not "having' to have santa send all the gifts ahead etc if we visit someplace else at Christmas.
We would love to go to Europe..someone suggested Rome. Not enough time, and we were stationed in Europe for 6 years (without kid) so we have done that.
Thanks for the tip about San Antonio..flying is last resort.
Maybe I should just start planning for next year

I second williamsburg area. In addition Busch Gardens nearby is open (most rides) and is all decked out for the holidays.

If I were doing San Antonio (and not trying to economize), I'd stay at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. Using that as my base, I'd venture downtown for the lights, the Alamo, food at Rosario's. The Hyatt has an indoor pool/surfing package, too. In the Hill Country, you'd also be close to "dude" ranches for horseback riding and rattlesnake roundups. (just joking about the roundup)

I've looked in the Hyatt, does sound nice. Still deciding. Might save that for spring break.
Williamsburg is totally booked. Even the $600 a night rooms. Looking for the whole nicely decorated hotel/resort thing..not comfort inn where you leave and go somewhere else all day.
Should have planned this way early.

Have you looked at B&Bs in Williamsburg? Same feel, just more intimate/cozy. Not sure if they have age minimums there or not, or if any of them would have rooms with multiple beds. We stayed at a really nice on in June for our anniversary (Boxwood Inn, walking distance to everything)

Yea theres stuff open. Its a respite vacation, so I like writing there, photography, etc. Its not like peak summer, the boardwalk is all closed, but there are still restaurants open on coastal highway as well as in town theres a really great bbq place on the main road into town (I forget what its called).
Beyond that, its really serine, if you are lucky you can get flurries at the beach which is for a photographer an amazing opportunity for unique pictures. If you like authentic americana theres some decent mom/pop shops and antiques etc.
Thats how I roll, I know not the most fun for most people.
