Thought I would ask for advice, and have somewhere where anybody can ask or give tips. I'm headed north towards Western PA, unfortunately on Thanksgiving eve. I've been using 66 to 81 and 522 in the past. Are there any alternatives?

I prefer 68 - where in Western Pa? Where are you starting from?

Lake Ridge to Johnstown area, so from 68 I would have to take 220. Just as long as I can avoid the Beltway and 270. I didn't travel last Thanksgiving so I'm not sure what to expect and am probably traveling at the worst possible time.

Any chance you can go up Thursday morning instead? It used to take us 4+ hours to get to Baltimore on that Wednesday. Finally we just went up early Thursday and did it in an hour.

The Post's Dr. Gridlock has his annual Thanksgiving getaway feature in today's paper, with maps showing the usual route and his suggested alternatives. Maybe it'll help?

A friend of mine also goes to Johnstown, but from Maryland. I don't think it's a great ride at all even from that direction.

I agree that 68 is a good ride. I take it to Morgantown and I've never had more than 3 cars near me!! However, I havent figured out yet how to avoid the beltway and I270 which are nightmares. I agree with the suggestion to get of REALLY early on Thursday morning and travel. You will be alone! But I realize that this not practical depending on your plans.
